Morning walks are said to do us a world of good. I wasn’t a fan of them until last year when I decided to push my limits and do a paid course by the amazing Mel Robbins. She introduced me to the concept of spending time on your own, without any distractions, including your mobile phones for as little as 15 minutes. The idea is to be more present. Mindfulness. Isn’t that what it’s about? When you are being mindful, you are being present. In year 9, I did a workshop through the Art of Living organisation in India. They also advocated a similar concept. Being present in the now. This morning, I went for a walk with my partner, whom I see mostly on the weekends. He is big on social media, and I find his phone usage challenging. Today, we held hands and went for a walk along the water on the Gold Coast, Queensland. What brought us both joy was not just holding hands but greeting people and smiling at them as we walked, and them smiling back. Simple pleasures in life. That’s all that matters some days. It’s a beautiful way to start the day. Listening to the birds, the rustling of leaves, small ripples in the water, smelling the fresh air, appreciating life and our bodies for supporting us. The little things matter. Start the day with a walk tomorrow. Even if it’s a brief one. And let me know how it feels!
